Lori Johns Angel “Life In The Fast Lane”

Posted by admin | March 3rd, 2010

“Life in the fast lane” is certainly an apt representation of the life of female drag racing star Lori Johns Angel. Her interest in the sport started when she was just three years old and was taken to the track to watch her Dad drag race. Always convincing her that she could do anything in life if she truly believed it, it was this mantra that led to Lori deciding she wished to become a drag racer like her Dad. Following the completion of a car mechanics course, her Dad taught her to speed shift in her first car, and she then went on to win the first drag race of her career.

That first car was a 4 speed 1982 Corvette, and was Lori’s first car while at high school. Her Dad taught her to speed shift and they honed her skills while driving by the side of the freeway on the way to and from school. Once she mastered this art, Lori was entered for her first drag race, which she won. It soon became obvious that was destined to follow in her Dad’s footsteps and, as such, her first dragster followed – The Tequila Sunrise, which was a 1969 Chevy Nova and ran 10:20 seconds over a quarter of a mile drag.

Her Dad has always been instrumental in Lori John Angel’s racing career. Not only did he buy her The Tequila Sunrise but researched and sourced her next two cars including a custom made B-Econo Dragster which she raced while in her freshman year at Texas A&M University.
